Euro Election Day - no postal voting here

2 Jun 2004

Euro Election Day is Thursday, June 10th. Polls are open from 7 am to 10 pm.

There are no local elections in the Buckingham Constituency.

In this area you vote in person - not by post (unless you previously applied for a postal vote.)

So just turn up at your local polling station - where you normally vote.

You do not need a polling card to vote - just turn up and identify yourself.

AS we reflect on the 60th anniversary of D Day, it is worth recalling that Winston Churchill himself saw the future of Europe after the war in nations coming together as a way to prevent future war.

It is worth remembering - as certain parties split themselves over our future in Europe, and some even question if we should stay in Europe, that - apart from the former Yugoslavia - there has been no war in Europe for 60 years , which is a very long time in European history.

'I am now going to say something that will astonish you. The first step in the re-creation of the European family must be a partnership between France and Germany. In this way only can France recover the moral leadership of Europe. There can be no revival of Europe without a spiritually great France and a spiritually great Germany. The structure of the United States of Europe, if well and truly built, will be such as to make the material strength of a single state less important. Small nations will count as much as large ones and gain their honour by their contribution to the common cause' - Winston Churchill, 1945.
